Inconsistent manager overview…

Monday’s tasks are frequently contradicted by Tuesday’s; Wednesday’s will no doubt take you on a completely unconnected journey; whilst Thursday’s and Friday’s, well they are anyone’s guess. That’s life under an inconsistent manager.

This leadershit is easily influenced. A person or a passing fad, it doesn’t matter, they will quickly buy into whatever is being offered, regardless of the impact on the business, ongoing projects and those they work with. Resource hungry, they are a drain on an organisation and are difficult to manage – up and down the line. It goes without saying that they seldom complete tasks/projects, and provide no direction or vision to those they are meant to be leading. Tiresome.

Signs to look for with an inconsistent manager…
  • A complete lack of direction across the team, or where there are some guiding principles, there will be zero conviction in the ability to deliver
  • Easily influenced by anyone and everyone
  • Objectives and tasks will drift, teams will feel helpless and disengaged
  • No self-discipline or trust in anyone, or any approach. Teams become paralysed by the constant change
Inconsistent manager survival tips…
  • Be certain that what appears inconsistent, isn’t just a quick response to changing demands
  • Ask questions, seek clarity as frequently as you need
  • Act with integrity. Your boss may have sight of things you do not; seek reasoning and understanding for proposed changes. Position this from a viewpoint of learning
  • Establish and control your own goals amidst the noise of the leader. Keep a clear track of your own performance and evidence of the impact that the constant change is having
  • Be persistent and consistent in sharing concerns, provided they are valid and delivered for the good of the company.
